While the size is nice, the durability is suspect. The back side

sliding battery door pin broke and now the panel won’t stay on.

The reception is poor and very scratchy. I would suggest you forget

this model and buy a home unit with battery backup that allows it to

    become portable.

I had high hopes for this based on other reviews. I was looking for a small weather alert radio for camping with the Boy Scouts so we could be alerted to thunderstorms. Out of the package, this radio did not work….if you jiggled the power switch enough, you might hear NOAA broadcasts for a couple of minutes, then it would die again. The alert function never worked with a severe storm aproaching.

It is lightweight, can be attached to belt or waist band. I prefer a stronger signal, with a louder warning alarm.

I had bought a pocket size weather alert radio from Radio Shack a fair number of yrs ago which shames this Midland hands down. With the current technology I don’t know why Midland didn’t make a better product.

My 2 cents; If you live in Tornado Alley, do not depend on this as your only weather alert radio, esp. for home. It’s ok for the field -better than nothing (altho better to have something with lightning detection added if used for the field). In this case you get what you pay for. Just my opinion.

The radio is small and easy to carry. It is great for emergencies like tornados.
