I currently work on the midnight shift and needed a radio and recorder(to tape some talk shows and sport games), and the Kaito KA801 performs exactly as advertised. Not only will it record FM stations, but also AM radio, which there are not many recorders that will do both. The radio DOES NOT have a recorder with a start/stop timer, however it has EXCELLENT battery life, which allows you to tape a program, let the recorder keep taping until you get a chance to stop it, then you can delete what you don’t want to listen to. I actually had the recorder taping over 12 straight hours on one day, and the battery was still good. The radio has powerfull sound, just in case you want to hook it up to some larger speakers. The only negative about this radio is, it does not have any equalizer settings, so if your using headphones or the main speaker on the radio, you don’t get to customize your bass and treble. The radio is of good strong construction, does not seem to be made of any cheap plastic, all in all, a great radio/recorder for the price..

This is a great radio and a great recorder, but you cannot preprogram it to record a specific radio program at a specific time in the future. You can program it to start recording sounds in the area at a specific time in the future, and you can record a radio program that is playing at the current time.
